Carlos Queiroz has been reappointed as Ghana head coach two months after quitting the job following the country’s exit from the World Cup last 16.
GFA confirms new spell
The Ghana Football Association said on Wednesday that the 73-year-old Portuguese coach will begin a new assignment when the next international window opens. It described him as a strong fit for the role because of his international experience, technical expertise and knowledge of the Black Stars.
Queiroz left after Ghana were knocked out at the round of 16 stage of the World Cup. He had taken charge with only a few months to prepare the squad after Ghana were left without a head coach 72 days before the tournament began, following Otto Addo’s departure in the wake of friendly defeats to Austria and Germany in March.

Ghana are due to play Ivory Coast home and away in the next international window as part of qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which runs from 21 September to 6 October.
Queiroz has previously coached Portugal, Iran, Colombia and Egypt. He led Portugal to the last 16 of the 2010 World Cup and managed Iran at three successive editions, winning two of nine matches. If he appears at the 2030 World Cup, he would match Carlos Alberto Parreira’s record as the tournament’s most experienced head coach.
