Mexico have appointed Rafael Márquez as their new head coach, the country's football federation has confirmed.
The former Mexico captain and Barcelona defender takes over from Javier Aguirre, who stepped down after Mexico were knocked out at the 2026 World Cup. Mexico lost 3-2 to England in the round of 16.
The federation moved to change the national team set-up after the tournament. Márquez is one of the most decorated players in Mexican football history and will now lead El Tri from the touchline.
