Javier Aguirre appointed to save Valencia from drop

Valencia have appointed Javier Aguirre on a contract until June 2027, with an option for a further season, as the club look to halt their slide towards relegation.

Aguirre returns to La Liga

The 66-year-old replaces Carlos Corberán and comes back to Spain after leading Mexico at the 2026 World Cup. Mexico exited in the round of 16 after losing to England.

Aguirre knows La Liga well. He has previously coached Espanyol, Zaragoza, Leganés, Mallorca, Osasuna and Atlético Madrid.

Valencia's position

Valencia sit 19th in the table with four points from seven matches, ahead of only Málaga. The new coach inherits a side already under pressure early in the season.
