Real Madrid have reached a preliminary agreement with Thibaut Courtois over a contract extension, and the Belgian goalkeeper is expected to sign a new deal soon.
Talks near the finish line
According to Fabrizio Romano, Madrid's hierarchy view Courtois as one of the club's most important players and one of the best goalkeepers in the world. The proposed extension would keep him at the Bernabéu until the end of June 2028.
His current contract runs until the end of June 2027. Spanish newspaper AS reported in September that the two sides had reached the final stages of talks and both wanted to continue together.
Courtois's Madrid spell
Courtois joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in 2018 and has played a major part in their domestic and European successes since then. His performances, especially in Champions League matches, have kept him as the club's first choice in goal.
The extension would also give Madrid more time to plan for a future replacement.
