Real Madrid are reportedly considering a move for Virgil van Dijk, with uncertainty over the Liverpool captain’s contract talks keeping the door open for interest from elsewhere.
Madrid weigh defensive options
According to Fichajes, Mourinho has asked for the 35-year-old as Real look at centre-back options ahead of the January transfer window. The Spanish club already have Antonio Rüdiger, Dean Huijsen and Ibrahima Konaté in the position, but Mourinho is said to want more experience in the back line.
The report adds that Madrid’s defensive errors early in the season have pushed Mourinho to explore alternatives, after a series of costly mistakes in recent matches drew more criticism.
Milan remain in the picture
Interest from Milan has also reportedly increased again, with Football Italia saying van Dijk could eventually end up at San Siro.
Van Dijk’s current deal runs until June 2027, but talks over an extension are said to be on hold. If that continues, January could become a key point in his future at Liverpool.
