Rodri has backed Spain to cope with France's threat in the World Cup semi-finals, saying both teams arrive in strong form and that his side must impose more control on the game.
Spain's captain said France have excellent attacking quality but highlighted their defensive work, describing them as physical, aggressive and difficult to break down. He warned against being drawn into an open contest and said Spain do not want a repeat of last year's 5-4-style chaos.
Rodri said he has watched almost every match at the tournament despite Spain's own schedule, which has taken him through six games and around 9,000 miles of travel. He also reflected on his link with France, recalling Spain's Under-19 European Championship semi-final win over them in 2015, a run that included him and Mikel Merino in midfield under Luis de la Fuente.
The Manchester City midfielder also defended Lamine Yamal, saying the teenager's maturity has stood out and that his development should be managed carefully. Rodri added that Spain still miss Carvajal and Álvaro and stressed the importance of leadership, particularly off the pitch, as the team chase a second World Cup title.
