Ronaldinho is set to return to Italian football with Ravenna in Serie C, more than a decade after his last professional match.
Ravenna confirm player registration
The club announced in June that the 2005 Ballon d'Or winner would be registered as a player and wear the No 10 shirt. His last official game came in September 2015 for Fluminense, and he has since featured mainly in exhibition matches and legends events.
Ronaldinho said at his Ravenna appearance that he felt good and that scoring the final goal of his career for the club would be a beautiful finish. He is aiming to reach 300 career goals.
Debut still to be decided
Ravenna owner Ignazio Cipriani said the move is not just a publicity stunt. He said Ronaldinho can help the club's long-term plan to grow and reach higher levels of Italian football, and that the Brazilian also has a stake in the ownership structure.
Ronaldinho will not feature in the opening game of the season against Reggiana, and the date of his first official appearance is still unclear. He said the final decision on whether he plays will depend on the coach and the team's situation.
