20 goals: The gap between Ronaldo and setting an immortal record

Cristiano Ronaldo scored in Al Nassr’s 3-0 win over Al Diriyah on Friday night, taking his career tally to 980 goals.

Milestone in Riyadh

The Portugal forward opened the scoring in Al Nassr’s Saudi Pro League round-eight home game. The goal was his 133rd for the club in 1,339 appearances across his career totals as given in the source.

Ronaldo’s overall record now includes 146 goals for Portugal, 450 for Real Madrid, 145 for Manchester United, 101 for Juventus and five for Sporting. He has also scored 133 for Al Nassr.

The run to 1,000

The source says Ronaldo has averaged 0.85 goals per game for Al Nassr and would need 20 more to reach 1,000 if that rate continues. It adds that he could do so in 24 more matches.

Al Nassr still have at least seven games left in the AFC Champions League Elite, with their next match against Uzbek side Neftchi. There are also 26 league games remaining, plus Saudi King’s Cup fixtures.

Ronaldo scored 30 times in 37 games for Al Nassr last season and has 15 goals in 22 appearances in the AFC Champions League Elite and AFC Champions League combined. He has said he hopes to reach 1,000 goals in a Portugal shirt, although the source says a possible suspension from the Portuguese football federation and the role of Jorge Jesus as coach could affect that target.
