Cristiano Ronaldo made World Cup history on Tuesday by scoring for Portugal against Uzbekistan, becoming the first player to find the net in six editions of the tournament.
Ronaldo struck in the sixth minute after a João Cancelo pass put him through. The goal gave Portugal an early lead in their 2026 World Cup meeting.
It was Ronaldo's ninth World Cup goal overall. He has now scored at the finals in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022 and 2026.
The Portugal captain celebrated with team-mates and coaching staff after the breakthrough. Portugal, held by Congo in their opening match, needed a win to keep their hopes of progressing alive and started on the front foot against Uzbekistan.
