Salah: Hossam Hassan Beats Players at Halftime

Mohamed Salah has described Egypt’s 2026 World Cup last-16 place as a reward for his generation after they booked a meeting with Argentina.

Speaking to reporters, the Liverpool forward said he hopes his career is remembered for giving people, especially children, the belief that they can reach a high level in any field. He added that he tries to pass that mindset on to Omar Marmoush and other team-mates.

Asked what has changed in camp under Hossam Hassan, Salah laughed that the coach "beats players between halves" before quickly turning serious.

He said nothing has really changed compared with previous camps, adding that he is now experienced enough not to be affected by social media chatter about his commitment to the national team. Salah said he does not feel the need to prove anything and prefers to help from inside the dressing room rather than order others about.

The Egypt captain also said he is proud of the bond within the squad and hopes people will remember him as a good person when he eventually leaves international football.

He finished by saying Egypt’s current group have not had luck with Africa Cup of Nations titles, but that reaching this World Cup stage gives them a major achievement to enjoy.
