Mohamed Salah was named man of the match after Egypt beat Australia 4-2 on penalties in the World Cup round of 16 in Dallas.
The sides finished 1-1 after 90 minutes and another 30 of extra time at AT&T Stadium. Egypt then held their nerve in the shootout to win 5-3 on aggregate and book a place in the last eight.
Salah played the full 120 minutes and converted one of Egypt's penalties. He was later selected as the game's outstanding player.
Egypt will face the winner of Argentina v Cape Verde in the quarter-finals.
