Alan Shearer hailed England’s players after they beat Mexico 3-2 in the World Cup round of 16 and booked a quarter-final place against Norway.
England lost Jerall Quansah to a red card in the 54th minute but still held on to win against one of the tournament’s three host nations. The result sent them into the last eight.
Shearer said England’s attitude was right from the start and that the squad handled the pressure and the altitude in Mexico City well. He added that the players represented the country “brilliantly” and were worthy of their place in the quarter-finals.
The former England captain also praised Thomas Tuchel’s substitutions. He said the manager made the right changes while the team were under pressure, and that the substitutes did their jobs after coming on.
Shearer finished by calling it an “unbelievable” night for England.
