South Korea came from behind to beat the Czech Republic 2-1 in Guadalajara in their second World Cup 2026 fixture.
Hong Myung-bo’s side had the better of the first half and created three good chances, but the match stayed goalless at the interval.
The Czech Republic struck first in the 59th minute, when Vladimir Kofal’s long throw was headed in by captain Ladislav Krejci. South Korea levelled eight minutes later through Hwang In-beom, who finished a solo run to make it 1-1.
South Korea stayed on the front foot and went ahead in the 79th minute. Hwang turned provider, sending in a cross for Oh Hyeon-gyu, who scored the decisive goal.
Egyptian referee Amin Mohamed Omar booked only Lee Gi-hyuk late on. The result gave South Korea its first three points in Group A. Mexico ended day one top on goal difference, with South Korea second. The Czech Republic and South Africa remain without a point.
