Spain and Uruguay meet in group H decider

Spain and Uruguay meet in Guadalajara in the final game of World Cup 2026 Group H, with both qualification and top spot still in play.

Spain lead the group on four points from two matches. After a goalless draw with Cape Verde, they beat Saudi Arabia 4-0 and now need a point to guarantee a place in the knockouts. Luis de la Fuente’s side can also finish first if they avoid defeat.

Uruguay sit second on two points after back-to-back draws against Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde. Marcelo Bielsa’s team have yet to win in the tournament, but their fate remains in their own hands. A win over Spain would lift them to the top of the group, while a draw or defeat would leave them dependent on the result of Cape Verde v Saudi Arabia.

Cape Verde also have two points and sit third on goal difference, while Saudi Arabia are bottom with one point.

The last meeting between the sides came at the 2013 Confederations Cup, when Spain won 2-1. Spain are unbeaten in 12 matches and have kept clean sheets in their last three away games, while Uruguay have drawn five of their last six and lost the other. Mikel Oyarzabal leads Spain’s scoring with two goals, while Maxi Araujo has also scored twice for Uruguay, including in their last two games.
