Thomas Tuchel said England made life “very, very hard” for themselves despite beating Norway 2-1 to reach the 2026 World Cup semi-finals.
The England head coach praised the result and the fact that his side are among the final four, but stressed he was not satisfied with the performance.
Asked whether the issue lay with mentality, Tuchel rejected that suggestion. He said the players had shown commitment, but that the problems came from the quality of the team’s play rather than their attitude.
Tuchel added that England were too loose technically, lacked structure and did not move the ball quickly enough. He said the team had been fortunate on the day and insisted they must be better in the semi-final.
England now have three days to recover before their next match, with Tuchel saying the squad will use that time to improve after a shaky win.
