Manchester United are not planning to sack Michael Carrick despite mounting pressure after a poor start to the new season.
Club stance remains unchanged
According to TEAMtalk, sources close to the club say there is no plan for a knee-jerk response or an early managerial change. Fabrizio Romano has also reported that United’s board still believe in Carrick and do not intend to alter the project because of the opening results.
United have lost three of their six matches in all competitions this season. Their latest setback came in the League Cup, where they led Brighton 2-0 before losing 3-2 and going out of the competition, prompting protests from supporters at Old Trafford.
In the Premier League, United had collected four points from their first four games, and a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in the derby added to the scrutiny on Carrick.
Carrick plays down speculation
Before the Fulham match, Carrick said it was “ridiculous” to think about his job after two or three bad results and said his focus remained on preparing the team and improving results.
Carrick led United to third place and Champions League qualification last season during his interim spell, before the club gave him the job permanently.
