The United States will host the first women’s Club World Cup in 2028, FIFA confirmed on Thursday.
FIFA explains its choice
FIFA said the decision reflected the United States’ experience of staging its tournaments, the country’s infrastructure and services, and interest from stakeholders in women’s football.
The world governing body pointed to the country’s record with major sporting events, including the men’s World Cup it co-hosted earlier this year.
Format and teams
The inaugural competition will take place from 5 to 30 January 2028.
Nineteen clubs from all six confederations will take part. Asia, Africa, North America and South America will each send three teams, Oceania will have one representative, and UEFA will have six clubs in the field.
