USA beat Bosnia to reach World Cup last 16

The United States beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 to reach the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup, despite playing the final stages with 10 men.

Folarin Balogun had an early effort ruled out for offside, but he put the US ahead just before half-time. The striker then received a straight red card in the 64th minute for a serious foul, leaving Mauricio Pochettino's side to see out the match with a numerical disadvantage.

Bosnia pushed forward after the dismissal and created chances, but could not find a way through. Malik Tillman settled the tie in the 82nd minute with a fine free-kick to double the lead.

The result sends the US into the round of 16, where they will face Belgium on 16 July at 03:30. Bosnia, appearing in the knockout stage of a World Cup for the first time, exit the tournament. Brazilian referee Raphael Claus took charge and booked Bosnia's Stjepan Radelić.
