Welbeck: I joined Chelsea at a truly exciting time

Danny Welbeck says he feels proud to have joined Chelsea after completing a two-year deal with the London club.

Welbeck on his move

Welbeck, who has won 42 England caps, said Chelsea’s interest made him feel honoured. He added that the club’s history and regular push for trophies had helped make the move an easy one to accept.

The forward also said he already knows several players in the squad and has had positive talks with head coach Xabi Alonso. He described the move as coming at an exciting time and said he is ready to give everything for the club.

Welbeck said his team-mates can rely on his experience and come to him whenever they need support.

Brighton record

The 35-year-old arrived from Brighton, where he had been since 2020 and had one year left on his contract. Last season, he made 40 appearances in all competitions and scored 14 goals.

Chelsea have been busy in the summer window, with Morgan Rogers, Marco Palstera, Giovanni Quenda, Emmanuel Amagha, Denner, Dastan Satpaev and Maxence Lacroix also arriving.
