Chelsea have officially completed the signing of Valentín Barco on a long-term deal. The 22-year-old has joined from Strasbourg after weeks of negotiations between the clubs.
Deal details
Barco has signed a contract until 2032, according to reports. Chelsea view the Argentina international as part of their longer-term squad rebuild, with a focus on younger players.
He arrives at Stamford Bridge after a spell that began at Boca Juniors, before a move to Brighton in 2024. He did not get much Premier League action there, but he settled quickly at Strasbourg, first on loan and then permanently.
What Barco adds
Barco is comfortable at left-back and in left midfield, and his versatility is one of the reasons Chelsea moved for him. Reports in Argentina have also highlighted his crossing, technique and ability to carry the ball forward.
Chelsea have been busy in the transfer market this summer, and Barco is one more addition to a squad being reshaped for the new season. Barco said he was happy to join Chelsea and sees the move as a major step in his career.
