Yamal named man of the match after Spain beat Austria

Lamine Yamal was named man of the match after Spain beat Austria 3-0 in the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Thursday night.

The decision came as a surprise to some, with Mikel Oyarzabal scoring twice and Marc Cucurella setting up both goals for Spain. Their returns had a clear impact on the result, but Yamal still took the official individual award at full-time.

Spain controlled the tie from start to finish and advanced with a comfortable victory. Austria could not find a way back once Spain took charge, and the La Roja forward line did the damage with three goals and a clean sheet at the other end.
