Lamine Yamal has said he should win the 2026 Ballon d'Or, arguing that his form this year puts him ahead of the rest of the field.
Yamal backs himself for top prize
Speaking on Movistar Plus programme Universo Valdano, the Spain international said the award should go to the best player in the world and claimed he belongs in that conversation alongside Kylian Mbappé.
He said he believes he deserves the prize because of everything he has achieved this year, adding that anyone who has watched the games will know that.

Yamal also said he was not happy after winning the World Cup, although he added that an injury was not the reason. He said another World Cup could come in a different period and that, if he had not been injured, he could have played at the same level.
He finished by saying he had done a lot that people did not see.
