1899 Hoffenheim vs Hamburger SV 2-3

Hamburger SV left Sinsheim with a 3-2 win after taking control before the interval and then surviving a late spell with 10 men against 11 after 1899 Hoffenheim's Bernardo Fernandes da Silva Junior was sent off in the 65th minute.

Yussuf Poulsen opened the scoring in the 12th minute for Hamburger SV, and the visitors doubled their lead in first-half stoppage time when Sebastiaan Bornauw turned the ball into his own net three minutes into stoppage time after a VAR review had already ruled out a Hoffenheim goal for Bambasé Conté. That left 1899 Hoffenheim 0-2 Hamburger SV at half-time.

Hoffenheim got back into it on 53 minutes when Bambasé Conté scored from Fisnik Asllani's assist to make it 1-2, but their task became harder after Bernardo Fernandes da Silva Junior was booked on 55 minutes and then dismissed on 65. Hoffenheim made two changes on 63 minutes, then another two on 74, while Hamburger SV made three changes on 76 minutes. Terem Moffi, who came on in the 76th minute, made it 3-1 on 83 minutes from Miro Muheim's assist, with Muheim having come on in the 41st minute, and he then sealed it himself in the fourth minute of stoppage time after a VAR check had ruled out an Otto Emerson Stange goal on 81 minutes.

Hoffenheim had 64% of the possession and 542 passes to Hamburger SV's 306, while also leading 17-14 on shots and 7-3 on corners. The home side had the same four shots on target as the visitors, but Hamburger SV produced 1.15 expected goals to Hoffenheim's 1.09 and made three saves to one.
