Portland Timbers vs Colorado Rapids 0-0

Portland Timbers and Colorado Rapids drew 0-0 at Providence Park after VAR ruled out a Portland penalty in the 40th minute. Neither side found a breakthrough before full time.

The first half produced the game's only major flashpoint before the break. In the 40th minute, VAR cancelled a penalty for Portland after Omir Fernandez was involved, and the sides went in level at 0-0.

The second half brought a few changes but no goal. Colorado made two substitutions on 62 minutes, sending on Paxten Aaronson and Hamzat Ojediran, while Portland made two changes on 67 minutes and another two on 72 minutes, with Ariel Lassiter, Jose Caicedo, Cole Bassett and Julio Joao Ortiz Landazuri introduced. The late switches did not alter a game that remained goalless until the end.

The numbers point to a fairly even contest that Colorado shaded in territory and the ball. The Rapids had 59% of possession and 483 passes to Portland's 351, while also leading the shot count 9-9, the corners 4-1 and xG 0.99-0.61. Portland put 3 of their 9 shots on target compared with Colorado's 1, and their goalkeeper made 1 save to Colorado's 3.

Discipline was busy, especially for Colorado. Rob Holding was booked in the 13th minute before being replaced at half-time, Morgan Whittaker was cautioned in the 43rd minute and then taken off in the 62nd minute, and Matthew Elliott Wells and Kosi Thompson were also booked in first-half stoppage time. Portland's only yellow card went to Kristoffer Velde in the 43rd minute.
