Arsenal close in on Bruno Guimaraes deal

Arsenal are said to be closing in on a controversial move for Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, with the Brazilian expected to join Mikel Arteta’s squad before the summer window shuts.

Transfer talks gather pace

The claim comes from former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking to Football Insider, after the outlet reported that Arsenal’s latest talks have left them confident of finishing the deal.

Newcastle continue to insist Guimaraes is not for sale, but Wyness said the club would be in a "very difficult" position if they fail to keep their captain.

The 28-year-old is understood to have already made his wish for the move clear, and Wyness expects the transfer to be completed in the coming weeks.

Newcastle face a long fight

Newcastle are trying to keep the Brazil international at St James’ Park for at least another season, but the battle appears to be getting harder.

Arsenal’s interest has now moved into the final stages, according to the report, with the Gunners pushing to land one of Newcastle’s key players before the deadline.
