Atletico Madrid have completed one of their main summer signings, paying €35 million to bring Lee Kang-in from Paris Saint-Germain.
The 25-year-old had featured on Atletico’s shortlist for some time, with the club also trying to sign him in the winter window. PSG blocked that move, but Atletico kept working on the deal and have now secured the transfer.
Lee came through Valencia’s academy before impressing at Mallorca and moving to Paris. He won honours in France, but strong competition in Luis Enrique’s squad limited his chances of regular starts.
Role in Simeone’s attack
Atletico expect Lee’s flexibility to add to their forward line. He can operate as a winger, attacking midfielder or second striker, giving Simeone more options in the final third.
The deal also fits Atletico’s commercial plans, with the club looking to grow its presence in Asian football. Lee is one of South Korea’s best-known players and arrives after recording four goals and five assists in 39 appearances for PSG last season.
