Belgium beat Senegal 3-2 after extra time in Seattle and advanced to the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
Senegal were sharper for long spells and went ahead in the 25th minute, when Habib Diarra converted after Ismaïla Sarr’s header came back off the bar. Sarr doubled the lead in the 51st minute with a firm finish from Moussa Niakhate’s long pass.
Belgium rallied late. Romelu Lukaku pulled one back in the 86th minute, then Youri Tielemans headed in Leandro Trossard’s cross three minutes later to level it at 2-2. The pair had been involved in a verbal exchange moments earlier.
The match moved into extra time, where Belgium had the better of possession but struggled to create clear chances. Dodi Lukebakio hit the bar in the 117th minute before VAR ruled that Tielemans had been fouled in the build-up. He then converted the resulting penalty in the 120th minute plus five to seal Belgium’s place in the next round.
