Brazil and Argentina have been placed on the same side of the 2026 World Cup knockout draw, ruling out a final between the two traditional rivals.
The round of 16 began last night, with France beating Paraguay 1-0 and Morocco defeating Canada 3-0 to move into the quarter-finals.
Brazil face Norway tonight, while Mexico meet England in the early hours of tomorrow. The winners will play each other in the last eight.
Argentina are also in that half of the bracket. After beating Cape Verde in the previous round, they will face Egypt in the quarter-finals. If they go through, they will meet the winner of Switzerland v Colombia.
Should Brazil and Argentina both keep winning, they would then meet in the semi-finals, setting up a possible early showdown between the two sides rather than a final meeting.
