Cape Verde are preparing for a historic last-16 meeting with Argentina at the 2026 World Cup, and head coach Bubista says his only thought is to knock out the holders.
The 56-year-old said his players had reached the stage on merit and had nothing to fear from the world champions. He described the match as the game of their lives, but said Cape Verde wanted to enjoy it and produce their best performance. He added that his side had its own plan for the contest and would try to keep focus while also looking for victory.
Bubista also praised Lionel Scaloni, calling him one of the best coaches in the game and saying he admires the work he has done with Argentina. Even so, he said Cape Verde would try to make things difficult for them.
Veteran defender Stupira backed that message, saying the squad were united, brave and responsible as they look to show their quality on the biggest stage. Cape Verde reached the knockout rounds after finishing second in Group H, ahead of Uruguay and Saudi Arabia.
