Croatia’s football federation has formally confirmed that Zlatko Dalic has left his post as national team head coach.
Dalic oversaw one of the most successful periods in Croatia’s international history. He guided the side to the 2018 World Cup final, where they lost to France, then took them to third place at the next tournament after a play-off win over Morocco. He also led Croatia to the 2022 Nations League final, which ended in defeat to Spain.
Croatia reached the last 16 at the 2026 World Cup before meeting Portugal in Toronto. They went ahead in that match, but Portugal turned it around in stoppage time through Cristiano Ronaldo and Goncalo Ramos.
Slaven Bilic is expected to replace Dalic, who is likely to move on to a job in the United Arab Emirates. Bilic previously coached Croatia between 2006 and 2011.
