Luka Modric has reached another milestone in European football after featuring in Croatia's latest World Cup 2026 match against Portugal.
The Croatia captain now has 39 appearances across major international tournaments, with 23 at World Cups and 16 at European Championships. Among outfield players from Europe, only Cristiano Ronaldo has more, with 56.
Modric's record underlines his longevity at the top level across almost two decades with Croatia. He has been central to the national team's biggest achievements, including their run to the 2018 World Cup final and third place at the 2022 tournament.
The latest mark places Modric alongside Ronaldo as one of the most enduring players of their generation. The pair also shared much of their trophy-winning period at Real Madrid, where both collected the full set of club honours and individual awards such as the Ballon d'Or.
