Deschamps weighs Saudi move after France exit

Didier Deschamps is preparing to end his 14-year spell in charge of France and may next head to Saudi Arabia, according to Le Parisien.

The report says the 58-year-old is being considered for both the Saudi national team job and a move to one of the country’s leading Pro League clubs. Saudi officials have reportedly contacted him several times and remain keen on working with him.

Deschamps will take charge of France one last time on Saturday in the World Cup third-place play-off against England, before deciding his next step. He plans to rest after the tournament’s formal end and review his options.

His departure follows criticism after France’s 2-0 semi-final defeat by Spain, a result that ended their run short of the final despite promising performances earlier in the tournament.

Deschamps has led France since 2012, winning the 2018 World Cup and finishing runners-up in 2022. The future of Saudi Arabia coach Georgios Donis is still unclear after the team’s group-stage exit, which could open the door further.
