Dutch media have branded the Netherlands’ round of 16 meeting with Morocco at the 2026 World Cup as a difficult and potentially dangerous tie.
The Netherlands finished top of Group F on seven points and will face Morocco, who came second in Group C on goal difference behind Brazil, in Monterrey on Monday.
De Telegraaf led the domestic reaction, with analyst Valentijn Driessen warning that the Dutch have yet to show their true level. He said that if they play like the first 15 minutes against Tunisia, they will go out of the tournament.
Driessen described Morocco as physically strong, tactically organised and experienced in knockout football, and said the Dutch defence could be exposed by quick counter-attacks.
Voetbal Primeur and Voetbal International also called the match dangerous and difficult, pointing to Morocco’s run to the 2022 World Cup semi-finals and the number of players in European football.
NOS made the same point, saying Morocco now belongs among world football’s elite and noting that the Netherlands would have preferred a less stubborn opponent at this stage.
