France’s football federation is preparing a plan to host the 2027 UEFA Nations League finals in Lyon and Saint-Étienne, with Philippe Diallo confirming the country would bid if the national team reaches the semi-finals.
Proposed venues
Under the proposal reported by FootbalI and quoted by Ouest-France, Groupama Stadium in Lyon would stage France’s semi-final and the final. Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in Saint-Étienne would host the other semi-final and the third-place match.
The federation had first looked at Stade de France and Parc des Princes in Paris, but their existing schedules pushed officials towards Lyon and Saint-Étienne. The two cities also fit UEFA’s distance requirements for the finals stage.
2038 World Cup talks
Diallo has also raised the possibility of a joint bid for the 2038 World Cup. He told Ouest-France that the tournament, with 48 teams, would need several countries and a wider spread of infrastructure.
Le Monde had earlier reported that France had begun preliminary talks about a shared bid, including with Germany. No bid has been submitted yet, and any decision would depend on agreement between possible host countries and FIFA’s terms.
