Jesus: We Want to Win the World Cup

Jorge Jesus has said his main aim with Portugal is to win the 2030 World Cup on home soil.

Speaking to Canal 11, the new national team coach said the chance to lead his country, and the fact Portugal will host the tournament, were central to his decision to accept the role. He said his focus is entirely on the 2030 finals and that he hopes to help Portugal achieve the dream of becoming world champions.

Jesus added that he has never worked in teams where the target was anything other than the title. He pointed to spells at Flamengo, Benfica and Sporting, saying coaches at those clubs are expected to win rather than simply compete.

He said the same standard applies with the national team, where success will be judged on results in matches. Jesus ended by saying he feels proud to lead Portugal and believes the squad has the resources and ability to reach the goal.
