Klopp appointed Germany head coach until 2030

Jürgen Klopp has been appointed head coach of Germany and will lead the team until 2030.

The 59-year-old replaces Julian Nagelsmann, who stepped down after Germany’s exit to Paraguay in the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup.

Klopp had not coached at the top level since leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season, saying at the time that fatigue was the main reason for his departure.

He spent nine highly successful seasons at Anfield, winning the Premier League and the Champions League.

Germany’s new era

Since leaving Liverpool, Klopp was named global head of football at Red Bull in October 2024 and worked behind the scenes across the company’s multi-club set-up. He also appeared as a television pundit for German broadcasters during the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

DFB president Bernd Neuendorf announced the appointment at a press conference in Frankfurt on Friday.

He said Klopp had been the federation’s first choice from the outset and that talks in recent weeks had been intensive.
