Vincent Kompany has said the Premier League is currently the best league in world football, with the Bundesliga his next choice behind it.
Kompany on the gap
The Bayern Munich head coach made the comments after his side beat Aston Villa 2-1 in a pre-season friendly ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. Kompany, who played for much of his career in England and later began his coaching career there with Burnley, said English clubs' financial resources set the Premier League apart.
He said the league has far more money than any other competition, which helps attract better talent. He added that the Premier League has built that position over time.
Why he rates the Bundesliga
Kompany also highlighted what he sees as the Bundesliga's strengths, including a strong supporter culture, talented players coming through different clubs and the presence of many big teams in Germany.
He described the Bundesliga as an exciting league and placed it second behind the Premier League, saying both competitions have high-quality teams and players.
