Liverpool’s home form has slipped in recent seasons, and Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Anfield showed how much of that edge has gone. Kai Havertz scored in the 16th minute as Arsenal claimed their first Premier League victory at the ground in more than 14 years.
Klopp’s old record has been overtaken
Jürgen Klopp made Anfield one of Europe’s hardest away trips between 2015 and 2024. In four seasons, his Liverpool side did not lose a single Premier League home match.
Arne Slot and Andoni Iraola have already matched Klopp’s total of six home league defeats at Anfield, but across only 43 games. Klopp took 148 home league matches to reach the same number.
The numbers behind the drop
The Arsenal defeat also brought another stark statistic. Liverpool had 17 shots but failed to register one on target, the first time they have finished a home Premier League match without a shot on target since 2003.
Liverpool have scored only four goals in five home league games this season, their worst return after five such matches in Premier League history. After nine rounds, they sit fifth in the table and the gap to the top has already opened up.
A rebuild still taking shape
Slot has been in the job only a short time, and Iraola is still early in his own spell. The comparison with Klopp shows how much ground Liverpool have to recover if Anfield is to regain its old weight in title races.
