Modrić: Ronaldo will reach 1,000 goals

Luka Modrić has backed Cristiano Ronaldo to reach 1,000 career goals and says the Al Nassr forward could keep scoring after that.

Modrić's verdict

Modrić, who spent several seasons alongside Ronaldo at Real Madrid, said the Portugal captain's mentality and professionalism still set him apart. He argued that Ronaldo's self-belief and work rate could keep him on the scoresheet for years to come.

“Ronaldo is extraordinary, there is no doubt he will reach 1,000 goals and go beyond that,” Modrić said. “He can keep scoring until he is 50 because he believes in himself and works so hard.”

The milestone in sight

Modrić also pointed to Ronaldo's confidence, motivation and constant effort to stay sharp physically and technically as the main reasons behind his long career.

Ronaldo has continued to score regularly in recent years despite turning 40, and the 1,000-goal mark has become one of the key targets of the final stage of his career.
