Nagelsmann resigns after Germany’s World Cup exit

Julian Nagelsmann has resigned as Germany head coach four days after their exit from the 2026 World Cup.

Sky Sport Germany reported that Nagelsmann made the decision after a long meeting with German Football Association officials and a review of the team’s tournament performance.

DFB president Bernd Neuendorf had already said the federation would carry out a full assessment after Germany’s defeat to Paraguay in the round of 16.

Nagelsmann had been under contract until the end of Euro 2028, but the early exit brought his spell in charge to a close.

German media have named Jürgen Klopp as the leading candidate to replace him, and reported that he would be prepared to take the job if he receives a formal offer.
