Julian Nagelsmann says Germany will need a near-perfect display against Paraguay in their World Cup 2026 last-16 meeting in Boston.
The Germany coach said he is considering tactical changes, but would not reveal his plans before kick-off. "There are tactical reasons to change something. I won't reveal anything. You'll see tomorrow," he said, adding that there was no need to make life easier for Paraguay's staff.
Nagelsmann described Paraguay as a physical, irritating side who defended well and attacked directly. He said they had played with confidence in the group stage and shown what they can do even when they conceded.
Germany, he said, must create chances, finish them and avoid giving the ball away. "If we do that, I think we can put in a good performance and go through to the next round," he said.
He also brushed aside criticism of his own role, insisting that only the team and its success matter. Germany lost 2-1 to Ecuador in their previous match, and Nagelsmann said his side now want to do better after having enough time to prepare.
