Michael Olise has spoken publicly for the first time since the World Cup, calling France’s failure to win the trophy a major disappointment.
Olise reflects on France’s run
In an Instagram statement, the 24-year-old said France had not imagined ending the tournament in that way after making a strong start. France were beaten by Spain in the semi-finals.
Olise also pointed to a personal milestone, saying he was proud to have set the record for the most assists in a single World Cup. He finished with seven, breaking Pelé’s long-standing mark of six from 1970.
Tribute to Deschamps
The winger thanked Didier Deschamps for giving him his first France call-up and for keeping faith in him through difficult moments. He wished the departing coach the best for whatever comes next.
Olise did not mention Bayern Munich in the post, and made no reference to ongoing talk of a move to Real Madrid. Bayern officials have said in recent days that a summer sale is off the table. His contract runs until 2029 and is due to be extended.
