Real Madrid and Vinicius remain apart in contract talks

Real Madrid and Vinicius Junior both want to extend his contract, but the two sides have still not reached a final agreement because of a dispute over pay.

Talks have stalled

According to Thomas Roncero, speaking on Cadena SER, there has been no meeting between the club and Vinicius’ camp for around eight to nine months. He said Real remain optimistic that a deal will eventually be done, while people close to the forward insist he wants to stay in Madrid and has no plan to leave Santiago Bernabeu.

The sticking point is reported to be salary. Roncero said Vinicius had previously asked for wages on a level with Kylian Mbappe, a demand Real rejected.

Club stance stays firm

Roncero argued that a deal could be wrapped up quickly if Vinicius or his representatives lower their demands. If they do not, he said the talks could break down.

He also pointed to Mbappe’s status in the squad, saying Real see the Frenchman as their top star and do not consider equal pay for Vinicius justified. Even so, he noted Vinicius remains a fan favourite and has played a major part in recent Champions League wins.

Roncero added that Real’s move for Dean Huijsen can be read as a sign the club are planning for every outcome, including a possible departure.
