Ståle Solbakken said the pressure of Norway’s 2-1 win over Ivory Coast left him feeling close to collapse as his side sealed a historic place in the World Cup last 16.
Norway reached the knockout stage for the first time in its history after goals from Antonio Nusa and Erling Haaland settled a tense match that stayed tight until the final seconds. Solbakken cut an anxious figure on the touchline throughout and struggled to hide his emotion after the final whistle.
Speaking to TV2, he said: "If I survive this match, I survive anything."
He added that the closing stages left him drained, saying he felt pressure from every direction and was completely worn out. After Norway’s second goal, he briefly allowed himself to celebrate before urging his players to keep their focus and manage the game.
Solbakken said the achievement belonged to the players and staff, not to him. Norway now face Brazil in the last 16.
