Spain have become the first European side to win eight consecutive knockout matches in major tournaments after beating France 2-0 in the 2026 World Cup semi-final.
The result stretched La Roja’s run across the World Cup and the European Championship, with wins over Georgia, Germany, France and England at Euro 2024 before four more victories at the 2026 World Cup.
Those World Cup wins came against Austria, Portugal, Belgium and France. The sequence took Spain past two previous marks of seven straight knockout victories, first set by Italy between 1934 and 1938 and matched by Spain themselves from 2008 to 2012.
The record adds another milestone for Luis de la Fuente’s team, who have now underlined their place among Spain’s most successful international sides.
