Gallego's criticism of Vinícius
Jesús Gallego, writing in AS, says Vinícius Junior's place in Real Madrid's starting line-up is costing the team. He argues that the Brazilian has shown a drop in form this season and no longer deserves a regular starting spot.
Gallego says Madrid's move away from the tactical shape it had found in matches against Barcelona and Racing Santander went badly when Vinícius was used in Athens. He claims the side lost balance and that even AEK Athens looked like a stronger European team than expected.
What the columnist wants Madrid to do
The columnist says Vinícius should start on the bench and use training, then substitute appearances, to win back his place. He says the forward needs to do more than produce quick runs, dribbles and the occasional goal.
Gallego also says Vinícius must help defensively and work for the team in the same way as Diomande, who has taken his place in the side. He adds that if the forward cannot do that, he may have to wait until June before seeking a move to a club that offers him a more central role.
