Switzerland beat Colombia on penalties to reach last eight

Switzerland knocked Colombia out of the 2026 World Cup on penalties after a 0-0 draw over 120 minutes at BC Place in Vancouver.

The last-16 tie finished level through normal time and extra time before Switzerland held their nerve in the shootout to win 4-3 and book a quarter-final against Argentina.

Gregory Kobel started in goal for Switzerland, with Manuel Akanji, Granit Xhaka, Breel Embolo and Ricardo Rodriguez among the other names in their line-up. Colombia’s starting XI included Camilo Vargas, Davinson Sánchez, Luis Díaz, James Rodríguez and Luis Suárez.

Ivan Barton took charge of the match.
