Aurélien Tchouaméni will miss France's last-16 tie against Paraguay after aggravating a thigh injury in the final training session before the match, according to RMC.
The midfielder's recurrence means Didier Deschamps loses a key player at a crucial stage of the tournament. RMC said Tchouaméni is expected to spend about a week out, leaving France without him in Philadelphia.
Manu Koné is tipped to start in his place, as he did when Tchouaméni had to come off against Iraq earlier in the competition.
It is France's only expected absentee for the knockout game, but it comes at a bad time for a player who has been one of the side's most reliable performers outside the team's headline stars.
