Thomas Tuchel said England's 2-1 win over Congo gave the squad a real lift after they recovered from an early setback.
Congo scored with their first shot, but England settled after the break, took control and created several chances. Tuchel also felt his side should have had a penalty.
He said coming from behind meant more than an easy victory because it showed the players they can stay calm and keep going when a match turns against them. According to Tuchel, that kind of response gives the team confidence for the rest of the tournament.
Tuchel praised Harry Kane for influencing tight games and said the striker keeps improving. He also singled out substitutes Anthony Gordon and Bukayo Saka, saying the energy from the bench played an important part in the win.
England now turn to their round of 16 meeting with Mexico, where Tuchel said patience and belief will matter again.
