World Cup final referee Slavko Vincic retires

Slavko Vincic has retired from refereeing after taking charge of the 2026 World Cup final, the Slovenian Football Association said.

Final was his last match

The 46-year-old Slovenian officiated Spain's 1-0 extra-time win over Argentina in his final game as a referee. He also sent off Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez with a second yellow card.

Vincic ruled out another Spain goal after a VAR review, with the decision linked to a foul by Mikel Merino on Argentina defender Nicolas Otamendi.

Strong European record

Vincic has been a FIFA international referee since 2010 and built a long career in European club football. He took charge of the 2022 Europa League final between Eintracht Frankfurt and Rangers, which Frankfurt won on penalties.

He also officiated the 2024 Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, won 2-0 by Real Madrid.
